European Championships

Hi everybody,

It has been a month since the last time I updated my site. I must say that it has been an exciting month. I started off by winning my match in our first Champions League match in Russia. It was my first match in a very long time and I felt that I played well despite being a bit rusty. It was enough to win my match and we won 3-0. We have played three matches and the team has won them all, meaning that we are still undefeated in the Champions League this season. It is great to finally contribute to my club UMMCs success and hopefully we can go all the way in the Champions League this season.

As for my own game I am feeling that it is beginning to come good. I feel that I am hitting the ball better and better and my touch improves day by day. Physically, I still have a way to go but one thing I have learned from my injury period is that it doesn’t help to force anything. I have to take one step at the time to be sure that I am building my body up correctly. That means that I sometimes have to be more patient than I want to, but that is what creates the best results in the long run. I am sure that I will get back to my best. I am feeling more and more positive for every week and I am sure that I still have some great results left in me, hopefully also in London in 2012.

One thing that has surprised me after my return to the table is the quality of the game. I know that it has “only” been a year since I last played but I feel that the level of my opponents has increased drastically. The quality of the play with new variants of serving and returning has really impressed me, and I am sure that table tennis will reach higher levels in the year to come. That is something that I look forward to contribute to.

In the upcoming week I am back with my National team playing in the European Championships team competition. This competition brings back great memories from the 2009 championships were I came out on top in the individual competition. Unfortunately, I am not able to play in the individual championship this year. I still need to build up my knee in small steps, and the number of matches is still a bit too much in championships like this. Instead I am focusing on helping the Danish squad back into the best group. Unfortunately, during my injury last year, we moved down from the best group, so my main focus is to get us back up with the best teams in Europe. I feel that we have the team to do it and I am sure we will succeed in doing so.

Last I would like to thank all of you for your nice comments on my website. It is very nice to see so many people who care about me. Thank you all very much for that.

Take care,

Michael
